The Temec Torpedoes participated in the third annual Vancouver Dodge for Dimes charity dodgeball event at the Creekside Community Centre on Saturday February 25, 2017.
The Torpedoes raised over $1,000 for March of Dimes Canada from employee and corporate contributions, and the Temec reception donations jar – strategically placed for maximum visibility to people coming and going to our main meeting room.
Our thanks to March of Dimes Canada for setting up the event, the Creekside Community Centre for hosting it, and to the dozen or so enthusiastic volunteer dodgeaholics from the Vancouver Dodgeball League for all their support!
So why Double Dodging? Well, the Torpedoes were split into two teams for the event:
Temec A and Temec B, ably captained by Kate Keenan and Jocelyn Schonekess respectively.
Each Temec team was given two Vancouver Dodgeball League certified dodgeaholics to make up the numbers: special thanks to Chrystal and Irvin (Temec A), and Jarrod and Lily (Temec B) for their tireless contributions to the cause of a Temec victory!
However, even with two teams in a four-team event, the Temec Torpedoes were denied the podium – again!
Post tournament interviews with Kate and Jocelyn indicated that next year will be a different story – a practice session will be scheduled, so Dodge for Dimes 2018 is pretty much in the bag.
The Torpedoes would like to thank the other teams “We Dodge for Dimes” (silver medal winners), and notorious Seattle dodgeball delta force “Dunno” (who found the event on Google or Facebook and promptly invaded Canada) for taking the Cup and the gold medals by a considerable margin!
We need to get the Cup back to Canada in 2018, people !
The Temec Engineering Group would like to thank all the Torpedoes!
